“The Animal Kingdom”

VTIFF’s monthly screening for March will be the French film The Animal Kingdom, a darkly imaginative exploration of a human ecosystem undergoing transformation. A wave of mutations gradually changes some humans into avian-animal hybrids. The arrival of these new creatures stirs fear, resentment and latent bigotry.

The film is a “spellbinding magic-realist fable” (Deadline) that is “rippling with visual invention” (Screen Daily). A huge hit in France, The Animal Kingdom leads all films with 12 nominations at the upcoming César Awards, including best picture, director, actor, screenplay, cinematography, and music.
