April 12, 2023 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

Veronneau and Pomerleau
Lise Veronneau and Ernie Pomerleau

A descendant of 17th-century Québécois with an original ancestry in Normandy, Lise Veronneau has been a major proponent of things French, Québécois, and francophone generally in Vermont over the past few decades. She served the AFLCR on its board of directors from 2009 to 2021. She has been part of the Annual International Francophone Flag event in Montpelier and Flag Raising in Burlington over the last 12 years, involving France and Canada. She is president of the Honfleur (Normandy) Sister City Committee in Burlington. For her contributions to building these international relationships, she has become the Honorary Consul of France in Vermont and was awarded in 2019 the title of Madame le Chevalier in the Ordre National du Mérite de France.

In her Pause Midi presentation, Lise Veronneau will discuss her roles in these various activities in which she has been or is currently participating: Her past responsibilities in the AFLCR. How the sister city relationship with Honfleur developed (in addition to it having been the port from which Samuel de Champlain sailed). The benefits that accrue to both Honfleur and Burlington from the relationship. How she became an Honorary Consul of France, and what duties that entails. How she views further developments of the relationships, cultural and otherwise, between Vermont, Québec and France.

The presentation will be in English, via Zoom.
