Book Club: Le malade imaginaire

Join us to read and analyze the famous The Imaginary Invalid or The Hypochondriac (French title: Le malade imaginaire), a three-act comédie-ballet by the French playwright Molière.

Argan sees himself as seriously ill. He can only live with the help of doctors and apothecaries, to the point of wanting to marry his daughter, Angelique, to a doctor. Fortunately, Béralde, Argan’s brother, and Toinette, the devoted servant, will do anything to change Argan’s outlook and try to cure him of his illness. In addition to discovering a classic French play, students will be encouraged to read portions of the play out loud, discuss the content, and interpret the theatrical language.
