Rencontre francophone at St. Albans

Mélanie Dufresne, a city councilor in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and Roger Léger, of the AFLCR, jointly issued an invitation for a Rencontre francophone, or gathering of area Francophones to improve and facilitate cultural and economic exchanges:

Our next meeting will be at St-Albans on Saturday the 27 of April at 11h00, Old Foundry, 1 Federal Street, St. Albans, VT

Or in English:

“You are cordially invited to a ‘Rencontre francophone,’ Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., in St-Albans, at the Old Foundry Restaurant, 1 Federal Street, Saint Albans, VT.

“This invitation is addressed as much to Francophones and Francophiles of Vermont and the greater Lake Champlain region as to Quebecers of Haut-Richelieu. This initiative of monthly meetings between Francophones and Francophiles aims to create closer ties with our neighbors in Vermont and northern New York State.

“We had a first meeting on February 2 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, a second on March 9 in Mont Saint-Grégoire, and the next will take place on April 27 in St-Albans. We simply wish through these monthly Francophone meetings to establish closer ties of friendship with the Francophones and Francophiles who are on our borders, those of Vermont as well as those of northern New York State.

“To our English-speaking American friends we extend this invitation: Our next meeting will be at St-Albans on Saturday the 27 of April at 11:00 a.m., Old Foundry, 1 Federal Street, St. Albans, VT

“Counting on your presence, and on your help to develop our relations with the Francophonie which vibrates on our borders, we ask you to accept our warmest feelings of friendship.”

Bienvenue amis québécois!

On April 27 about 20 people from New York, Vermont, and Quebec, from all walks of life, responded to the invitation and traveled to St. Albans for the Rencontre. The word is out that south of the border, we’re open to visitors from Quebec. Meanwhile north of the border, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu extends an open invitation to come visit and discover their wonderful city.

Thanks to St. Albans mayor Tim Smith and AFLCR members Stan Bradeen and Roger Léger for organizing this special gathering.
