Beginning French A

This introduction to French covers topics including greetings and introducing oneself, numbers, telling time, the weather, dates and seasons, expressing possession, and likes and dislikes. Basic grammar instruction includes the verbs “to be,” “to have,” and verbs ending in -er as well as adjective agreement, definite and indefinite articles as well as an introductin to question words.

Location: Montpelier High School (Room To Be Announced)

Dates: Mondays 6:00-7:30pm,  September 21 – December 7 (no class November 23rd)

Fee: $245 for the 11-week course. 10% discount for AFLCR Members.

Beginning French B

This course touches on topics such as family life and home-related terms, clothing and colors, leisure activities, weather and seasons and currency. Grammar topics include the verbs “to come” and “to go,” regular -ir and -re verbs, and verbs used to describe everyday activities, as well as an introduction to the past tense, expressing possession, comparisons and an introduction to the future tense with the verb “aller”.

Location: Montpelier High School (Room To Be Announced)

Dates: Mondays 5:15 – 6:45pm,  September 21 – December 7 (no class November 23rd)

Fee: $245 for the 11-week course. 10% discount for AFLCR Members.

Intermediate French A

Learn vocabulary and forms for talking about food and drink, learning, politics, city life, media, and law enforcement as well as terms for expressing quantity. Grammar topics include the verb “to do” and other common regular and irregular verbs, and more about expressing the past as well as direct and indirect object pronouns.

Dates: Mondays 6:45 – 8:15pm,  September 21 – December 7 (no class November 23rd)

Spoken French

This class is for those who have completed Proficiency in French. It will provide an opportunity for students to practice their reading comprehension, listening comprehension and spoken skills through a variety of sources. Class activities will not only be based on authentic materials borrowed from current events in francophone cultures (news articles, video clips, song lyrics), but will also be based on personal interests of the students.

Location: U-32, 930 Gallison Hill Road, Montpelier, VT 05602, Room 238

ABOUT AFLCR CLASSES

Our Method: The AFLCR French instruction program emphasizes oral expression within the necessary boundaries of grammar, along with listening, reading and writing.

Our Instructors: Classes are taught by experienced instructors who are native French speakers or who possess a very high level of fluency.

Textbooks: Books are provided for standard classes. If you wish to keep the book, the cost is $20. Modest material fees may apply for some classes.

Cancellation Policy: Under-subscribed classes will be cancelled at the sole discretion of the AFLCR; this is the only case in which refunds can be made. Usually 5 is the minimum enrollment to run a class.

Class Status: It will be noted on this page if classes have filled or been withdrawn or if their status is in question, requiring contact with Mme Tremblay before registering.
