Vigil for Nice, Vigil for Peace

July 17, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 6:20 pm

Dear Community Members,

We are faced with trying to make sense of horrific events that cannot be understood in rational terms. Please, let us not get used to it; and let us stand together.

In response to the reckless terrorist attack in Nice on Bastille Day, last night, the Alliance Francaise of the Lake Champlain Region will be holding a vigil this Sunday at 6 pm, at 43 King St. in Burlington for all of you who feel the urge to come together and be united.

Sunday 17 July

In particular, our hope is that it will be an opportunity for the local people with ties to France to come together as a family, and be united, in spirit with France.

We also hope that the local religious (Jewish, Christian, Muslim, denominational or non-denominational) and non-religious people will take this opportunity to come together, and be united in prayer or silence, as brothers and sisters in the common belief in the higher power of Love. As there is no other possible interpretation in any religion.

We will observe a minute of silence. Feel free to come and share a text about love, peace and unity if you so wish, so that, maybe, this event is transcended and becomes a chance to grow together, and change our hearts.

Following the vigil, the Alliance Française house will stay open to welcome those who wish to stay in communion for a moment.

There will be three official days of mourning in France. As a consequence, the celebration of Bastille Day scheduled for Sunday is cancelled.

Victoria Brassart-Jones
President of the Alliance Française of the Lake Champlain Region
