Sip and Game Night, with a twist

Getting excited about summer and its later evenings? Come play fun board games with us en français while sipping a glass of wine or a cider! This is the opportunity for participants with a mixed-level of French (A1 102 and up – francophones are welcome) to sign up to mingle and practice the language in a joyful and relaxed environment.

Game rules will be explained in French and we will learn the lingo of a game night! Games we might play: Uno, Mille Bornes, French Monopoly, Scrabble, Cluedo, Belote, Tabou, and more of the same style. Bring your own wine/beverage.

Here is the twist: We would like to extend the animation of these game nights to YOU, participants. If you have a favorite game and want to take on the challenge to explain the rules… en français… to the other participants, we would like to encourage you to host one Game Night. If needed, the teacher is available to coach you a few minutes before we play!

Note: Participants are not required to host a game – it is just an invitation to those who want to!

Cinéma Club

Three contemporary francophone films are used as springboards for this Cinéma Club discussion class. The first class will present a brief snapshot of the history of French cinéma, some vocabulary associated to this 7th Art, and useful vocabulary to express opinions.

Before viewing the movies (at home) a movie trailer and quick background information about the movie and its place in the broader social and historical background will be presented in class.  The following three classes will be devoted to talking and and sharing opinions about the movies, talking about the main themes and discussing characters development. The last class will be open to students’ short presentations about a francophone film they recommend to the rest of the class.
