A consortium of organizations is working on the events for La semaine de la francophonie this March, and the Alliance is delighted to be involved.
Please note: these dates as originally posted were one day off, but were corrected on 2/7/2010. The time for the March 12 reception has also been moved one hour later than originally scheduled.
March 12 and 13, before the official “semaine” gets underway, Burlington City Arts presents “Piecework: When We Were French,” a one-act play about the French experience in Vermont by Abby Paige. On Friday, March 12, at 7 p.m. the Alliance will invite the public to a reception preceding the performance at the Main Street Landing theater in Burlington. Click here for a promotional flyer with more details.
March 21 at 4 p.m. is the re-scheduled date for the lecture by Alan Hoffman, “A Star’s Farewell Tour: General Lafayette in Vermont in 1825.” at the Pomerleau Alumni Center Conference Room, St. Michael's College. Click here for directions. Presented in English. Mr. Hoffman has translated the journal of Auguste Levasseur, private secretary to General Lafayette during his trip to the United States a half-century after the Revolutionary War. His work provides us a close look at the movements of a widely adored personality of the 19th century, his relationships with the founding fathers, and his observations on American society and politics. For our audience, this fascinating conférence will focus on Lafayette’s 1825 visit to Burlington and around Vermont as illustrative of the reception that Lafayette received in each of the 24 states that he visited in 1824 and 1825.
